Nu Deco Ensemble to Perform at Concert Against Hate on March 5

MIAMI, Fla. – Feb. 17, 2016 – Nu Deco Ensemble will perform at the initial Miami in Concert Against Hate at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the New World Center in Miami Beach. The concert is presented by the Anti-Defamation League to honor local individuals who have demonstrated tremendous courage, compassion and determination in confronting hate and intolerance.

“Nu Deco is honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Anti-Defamation League and speak out against injustice in our community through our music,” said Sam Hyken, co-founder and artistic director of Nu Deco Ensemble.

Television and radio legend Larry King will narrate extraordinary stories of hope that will be interwoven with the music of Nu Deco Ensemble. The concert will present a special tribute to Arthur Teitelbaum, former Southern area director of the Anti-Defamation League.

Honorees and their stories include:

  • Chief Frank Kitzerow, Jupiter – Kitzerow secured justice for the hate crime that took the life of teenager Onesimo Marcelino Lopez-Ramos.
  • Robert Grant, Tampa – Grant is an acclaimed actor who uses his voice to speak on LGBT issues and spends his time off-screen raising awareness about aging in the LGBT community.
  • Angela King, Dunnellon – King educates young individuals in the “Life After Hate” program.

Nu Deco Ensemble made its performance debut in 2015 and quickly gained a following in the Miami music and arts scene. Collaborations with local artists such as Brika and Spam All-Stars highlighted their inaugural concerts at the Light Box in Wynwood, Deering Estate and North Beach Bandshell.

The recipient of a Knight Arts Challenge grant in 2014, the group of classically trained South Florida musicians is committed to creating new hybrids of musical expression.

A limited amount of concert-dash tickets are available at $250 per ticket, VIP package tickets are $1,000. A discounted price will be offered to those purchasing multiple concert-only tickets. Sponsorships are available at the following levels:
